Eight Days to COMBF Lift-Off

We closing in on the 2017 Crown of Maine Balloon Fest – Number 14.  Only eight days to go.  Preparations are being made to welcome the pilots and all of the crafts an business vendors.  Food vendors are ordering and preparing to serve delicious food to meet your eating and drinking desires.

Again this year each pilot will have balloon cards to hand out to spectators, crew and riders.  Come and be the first to collect the complete set of 12 balloon cards. Also this year’s COMBF Lapel Pins are in and will be available for sale as well as the COMBF 2018 Calendars.   For information regarding the COMBF or to volunteer for COMBF, please contact the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce Office.  Contact information is shown at the bottom of this page.

Want to Take a Flight?

Flight reservations are starting to go fast.  If you are interested in taking a flight this years, you should consider calling in early to secure a flight reservation as soon as possible.  Don’t let time run out on you, call as soon as possible.  Remember, flights are available for a fee charged by the balloon owner/pilot.  To schedule a balloon flight, please follow the instructions on the “Passenger Flights” page.  Click the button below.

Confirmed Today – 12th Balloon for 2017 COMBF

“Celtic Magic”  flown by Bob Martel from Sterling, Massachusetts has been added to this roster of flying balloons.  Bob is an experienced pilot who we are fortunate to be have flying with us. He is the owner-pilot of Boston Hot Air Balloons.

Eleven Balloons Confirmed for 2017 Balloon Fest

This week the COMBF Planning Committee has confirmed eleven balloons will be participating in 14th Annual Crown of Maine Balloon Fest. The following balloonists will be flying:  Wendell Purvis, Joel Jones, Derek Smith,  Randy Lee, Kenny Shumate, Mark Fritze, Mark Stodolski, Ron Cassidy, Dave Lopushinksy and Bud Hebrlee.  Finally the two “Gentlemen Balloonists from St. John”, Jim Rogers & Doug Shippee will be flying again this year.   Doug and Jim have the distinction of having flown in all the Crown of Maine Balloon Fests.  You can see who is coming and photos of their balloons on the pilots and balloons page. Plan to come and enjoy an exciting weekend of hot air balloon flying.

It is not too early to be reserving your flight on one of the balloons in the COMBF.  Simply call the Central Aroostook Chamber Office listed below to make your flight arrangements.  Waiting until Augusta may limit your options for day and flight.  Looking forward to seeing many folks at the six COMBF launches.

Brazilian Tribirds Balloon Big Hit

The Tribirds balloon flown by Marcos Bonimcontro of Sao Paulo, Brazil was exciting to see flying over Presque Isle.  This balloon was quite large and required a dozen volunteer ground crew members to inflate and deflate the balloon on each flight.  Here are a few photos of the balloon.
